2024 Republican candidate for President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, recently reported sources of income that could help him fund his campaign. It was revealed that one of the sources came from crypto and NFT.
Federal candidates in the US are required to disclose the value of certain assets and certain types of income over a wide range. This includes dividends, capital gains, interest, rent, and royalties. Income from other sources, such as salary, must also be disclosed in appropriate amounts.
Referring to the Bitcoin.com report, some of Trump's income comes from businesses and properties in Miami. He is known to own golf courses and resorts worth more than US$50 million which have generated revenues of US$145.8 million in 2022 and until the end of April this year.
Trump's wealth report also shows that a company made US$9.7 million or the equivalent of Rp. 148.9 billion (Rp. 15,351/IS$) by licensing his image on non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The company is CIC Digital LLC, it has a cryptocurrency wallet with at least US$1 million in ethereum (ETH), which generated revenue of US$2.8 million.
In fact, in an earlier disclosure in July, Donald Trump stated that his CIC Digital wallet did not hold more than $500,000 and was not profitable. At that time, the company also had a fiat bank account with a balance of less than US$1,000.
NFTs depicting Donald Trump are called Trump Digital Trading Cards. The NFT depicts America's 45th president as many characters, including Superman.
This is actually the opposite of Trump's previous attitude which ridiculed the existence of crypto. Unlike other candidates to become the Republican presidential candidate, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy who are more positive towards cryptocurrencies, during his presidency, Trump once stated that the value of crypto was based on 'air', aka unclear.
